Vaccinating your cat

Cat "Flu"
- This is a very common
respiratory viral infection. It is very easily spread from cat to cat
through air. It causes "flu-like" symptoms, i.e. sneezing, loss of
appetite, runny eyes, blocked nose........ and can quickly lead to
pneumonia and death if not readily treated. Cats that recover can become
carriers spreading it to other cats and often suffering recurrent bouts of
"flu" themselves.
Infectious
enteritis - A disease
similar to Parvovirus in dogs, i.e. vomiting and bloody diarrhoea. Often
leasing to death despite vigorous treatment.
Feline Leukaemia
(F.e.L.V.) - a cancer
causing virus which has recently become widespread among the cat
population. It is easily transmitted via saliva (bites and grooming) or
any close contact. There is NO TREATMENT. Symptoms are variable depending
on the organ affected. Diagnosis depends on blood and saliva tests.
The routine kitten
vaccination is for "FLU" and "Enteritis". But with the increasing
incidence of FeLV we now advise vaccination for FeLV also. This will
add to the expense of your cats vaccination course but it will protect
your cat from this deadly, untreatable disease.
